Terms and Conditions:

Terms and Conditions of Service

By using the services of Bright Movers Ottawa (hereafter referred to as “the Company”), the Client enters into legal relations with the Company under these Terms and Conditions of Service (hereafter referred to as “T&C”). Customers must read and accept these terms before signing the Bill of Lading. By signing, the Customer agrees to these terms, along with any related documentation, including labor rates, surcharges, service estimates, and preparation guidelines.

  1. Important Notice

Safety Boots: Due to government requirements, safety regulations, and insurance reasons, all employees of Bright Movers are required to wear safety boots at all times. Requests to remove safety boots will be rejected. If customers are concerned about floor damage, they must cover all traffic areas with antiskid mats or carpet rolls. Blankets and other clothing are not acceptable for this purpose. Customers may rent floor runners from Bright Movers at no extra cost before the move.

Floor Damage: If the Company is not informed in advance about necessary floor protection, the Company will not be held responsible for any floor damage during the move.

  1. Liability of the Company

Standard Liability Coverage: All services include standard liability at no extra charge. This means that the amount that can be claimed in the event of loss or damage is $1 per pound of the damaged item. If no other option is selected on the Bill of Lading, this standard liability coverage applies.

  1. Exceptions to Liability

The Company shall not be liable for:

Acts of God: Loss or damage due to events outside the Company’s control (e.g., fire, flood, hurricane, earthquake, strike).

Malfunctions: Mechanical defects in home electronics or appliances.

Material Damage: Damage to items made of particleboard, pressboard, or similar materials.

Fragile Items: Glass, marble, or veneer damage.

Environmental Factors: Damage due to aging, temperature changes, humidity, or moisture.

Unpacked Items: Items that are poorly packed, unboxed, or not properly wrapped, which are moved at the Customer’s own risk.

High Value Goods: Loss or damage to high value items (e.g., legal documents, jewelry) not disclosed on the Bill of Lading.

  1. Delays

The Company is not liable for delays caused by circumstances beyond its control. Customers must agree to accept delivery at the scheduled time. Otherwise, storage, handling, and redelivery fees will apply.

  1. Stoppage in Transit

If goods are moved through the Customer’s premises at their request, they will be received subject to additional charges and the Customer’s responsibility.

6. Notice of Claim

Claims must be submitted in writing at the time of the move or within 30 days for non delivery cases. Disputes must include a physical copy of the paid Bill of Lading and must be filed within 48 hours of move completion. Any repair costs must be approved by the Company in advance; repairs not authorized will not be reimbursed.

  1. Articles of Extraordinary Value

Customers must disclose high risk items in advance, and these items will require specific approval. If no such agreement is made in writing, the Company does not assume liability for loss or damage.

  1. Moving Charges

Rates are set at the time of booking and are charged per 15-minute increments. Additional fees may apply for heavy or awkward items.

  1. Goods Held in Lieu of Payment

The Company reserves the right to suspend or dispose of goods if payment is not made in full.

  1. Customer Responsibilities

Customers must ensure:

Proper packing of boxes and wrapping of fragile items.

Clear access to all areas, including parking arrangements.

Safe environments by removing pets and children during the move.

Accurate measurements of items and entryways to avoid complications.

  1. Dangerous Goods

The transportation of dangerous goods must be declared by the customer. Failure to do so may result in liability for damages, delays, or storage costs.

  1. Undelivered Goods

If goods cannot be delivered, the Customer will be informed and charged for storage or the return of goods.

  1. Return of Goods

If no instructions are provided within ten days of notice, undelivered goods will be returned to the Customer at their expense.

  1. Free In-Home Service Estimates

Bright Movers offers free in-home service estimates. These estimates are based on a specific date and time and apply only to the resources and circumstances discussed during the consultation. Payment can be made by cash, certified cheque, or money order, and is usually required before the final delivery. Failure to pay may result in storage, handling, or legal costs.

  1. Cancellation and Rescheduling

Rescheduling: The first reschedule is free.

Cancellation: Reservations can be canceled at least 48 hours prior to the scheduled move date. Cancellations within 48 hours or after the crew has been dispatched will incur a minimum charge of $100.

  1. Additional Services

Packing and unpacking services are available at an hourly rate. No additional charges apply for disassembly and reassembly services. Customers are responsible for arranging access, elevator reservations, and snow removal before the move.
